Reflections on TUM PREP: Student Testimonial

I was introduced to the Technical University of Munich Practical Research Experience Program (TUM PREP) by Professor Dewulf in the Fall of 2022 after inquiring about grant-based opportunities to study or work in Europe. When I looked further into the program, I found two projects at the Assistant Professorship of Exercise, Nutrition, and Health that were highly related to both my academic studies and my experiences as an athlete. As soon as I saw the projects, I knew immediately that I wanted to apply.

I am very happy that I did, because the months I spent in Munich this past summer were some of the best of my life. I made connections with other students from all over the world that I know will last far into the future. Beyond these connections, the internship itself exceeded my expectations. Among other duties, I designed and conducted a small cohort study exploring the impact of hydration status on body composition analysis. I could not have asked for better supervisors and I hope to be able to continue my work with them soon.

Beyond work and connections, Munich offered many enjoyable leisure activities including exploring museums, relaxing by the river Isar, and reading in the English Garden. Munich’s location also allowed for weekend adventures to surrounding countries as well as to the Alps.

A special thanks to Professor Dewulf for introducing me to the program, and to my supervisors: Prof. Dr. Köhler, Dr. Wasserfurth, and Dr. Höchsmann.
